The firm of Joseph
L. Calabrese, P.C. served as the Structural
Engineer for this project and conducted a detailed structural
survey of the existing 4-story buildings. Extensive reinforcing
of the structure was designed by our firm to support code mandated
loads as part of a major adaptive reuse project.
The work included extensive field measurements and drawings,
structural analysis of existing floors and roof framing, and
an assessment of the condition of the exterior facades. Interior
masonry walls were removed in certain locations to allow for
connecting corridors to pass from one building to the next.
Floor elevations were modified to meet ADA ramping requirements
in the new corridors.
Complete
restoration of the original exterior brick and stone facade
included
extensive reconstruction and the installation
of a metal tie back system to secure the masonry. The project
is an example of a successful adaptive reuse project and today
the buildings house professional office space and Diorio’s
Restaurant.
