Old Town Hall
Watertown, CT
Built in 1894,
the Old Town Hall of Watertown is an architecturally significant
2 ½ -story structure
located within the Watertown Center Historic District and is
listed on the National
Register of Historic Places.
The firm of Joseph
L. Calabrese, P.C. was selected as the
Structural Engineer for this project by the Town of Watertown.
Our firm performed a detailed structural investigation of the
historic building to determine floor load capacities and assess
structural damage to the exterior walls and slate roof. The
building houses various Town offices and is framed entirely
with rough sawn timber supported by brick masonry exterior
bearing walls.
A detailed 40 page report of findings was presented to the
Town Public Buildings Committee. Recommendations for repairs
and reinforcement were presented along with cost estimates.
The report included field measurements and drawings, structural
analysis of existing floor and roof framing, and an assessment
of the condition of the exterior brick bearing walls.
