The firm of Joseph L. Calabrese, P.C. was selected as the Structural Engineer to perform a structural analysis of the original 1922 marquee substructure and report on its capacity to safely support a new marquee. Commissioned by local theater impresario Sylvester Z. Poli, the Palace was built in 1920 and stood as the city's premier theater until it fell into disrepair in the second half of the last century. The new marquee signaled the final stage of the theater's state funded $40 million restoration project, designed by Kaestle Boos Architects of New Britain. More than a thousand Waterbury residents flooded East Main Street in November 2006 to celebrate the Palace Theater's 3rd anniversary and the lighting ceremony for the new marquee.
